Background

Scott Slocombe started university in zoology at the University of Victoria, before switching to ecology and environmental studies at the University of Waterloo (and doing a thesis on the international wildlife trade). He has an M.Sc. from UBC (in regional and environmental planning); and returned to the University of Waterloo for a Ph.D. on complexity, change, and uncertainty in environmental planning. He has been a professor in WLU Geography and Environmental Studies since 1989, where his research and teaching focus on environmental policy, planning, and assessment; systems approaches in environmental planning and management; parks and protected areas (especially transboundary and mountain), and ecosystem-based and integrated approaches. Dr. Slocombe’s geographic areas of strongest interest include northern and western Canada, Alaska, Australia, Russia, and Italy.
