  • David's research looks at the governance of global financial systems in light of the 2008 financial crisis, concentrating on the formation of the Financial Stability Board and the preference of financial regulators for networked forms of governance. This research topic will undertake an in-depth analysis of four of the key financial regulatory bodies and their evolving governance systems.

Background

David comes to the Balsillie School from Auckland, New Zealand. He undertook his Bachelor of Arts with Honors and Master of Arts in Political Science at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand. His interest in Global Political Economy derived from New Zealand’s tumultuous political and economic experiences in the 1980s in which an economic crisis produced a radical departure from political and economic orthodoxy. How the interaction between economic and political factors produced this dramatic change has inspired his desire to continue to research the interaction between states and markets.

Why he chose the Balsillie School: "I chose the Bailsillie School of International Affairs because it granted me an opportunity to work within a dynamic academic program that offered excellent research opportunities and facilities. Most importantly the Balsillie School offered me an opportunity to work under the excellent tutelage and supervision of Professor Eric Helleiner and his colleagues."
