Background
Greg's current research focuses on continuity and change in protracted conflicts, with a particular emphasis on how belligerent identities are constructed from selective readings of history. The ultimate objective is to develop techniques to re-conceptualize our social reality in a way that promotes a unity of purpose between diverse peoples. Secondary interests include trans-boundary security issues, (counter-)terrorism, global macroeconomics, and domestic pressures in Canadian foreign policy.
Why he chose the BSIA: "The MA Global Governance program is unique in that it integrates a rigorous theoretical curriculum in global political theory with the interdisciplinary knowledge required to communicate with policy practitioners. My degree from the Balsillie School will enable me to act as a node between the often insular cultures of political science, economics, law, and sociology."
Grégoire Baribeau was born in London, Ontario into a family that hails from western Saskatchewan. He joined the Balsillie School's Global Governance program after completing a Bachelor of Public Affairs and Policy Management at Carleton University's Kroeger College. His previous work includes border policy analysis for the Government of Canada, historical research for a consulting firm in Ottawa, and framing carpentry in the family business. When not working or studying, he enjoys live music, traveling, and playing ice hockey on a frozen pond.
