Background
Ricardo has worked for non-governmental organizations in Angola, Bolivia, and South Africa. He holds a B.A. in International Development Studies from Trent University, and a M.A. in Global Governance from the University of Waterloo. His M.A. research compared the discourses and practices of participatory democracy in the city of Porto Alegre, where he interned in the Department of Political Coordination and Local Governance. His doctoral thesis examines the historical processes leading to the emergence of local-level participatory initiatives in Brazil, taking into account structural and cultural factors, both at the local and national level. Ricardo is an associate researcher at the Núcleo de Pesquisas em Políticas Públicas da Universidade de São Paulo (NUPPs).
