Joseph joined the Balsillie School to gain a fundamental understanding of global governance across academic disciplines. He hopes to go on to analyse how digital communications technology is changing global governance.
He has a background in legal academia, having a BA in Jurisprudence from New College, Oxford and a Master of Laws from SOAS, where he focused on governance and undertook a review of the Electoral Commission of Kenya for his dissertation.
In between degrees, he worked for globally-concerned charities including Transparency International Kenya and Global Witness on combatting corruption, as well as gaining experience with the BBC World Service. He also worked in local and national politics in the UK.
After his Masters degree, he helped launch the UK chapter of the global public health advocacy and fundraising body Malaria No More, before moving to the Legal Division of the Commonwealth Secretariat to work on justice sector reform.
More recently, he worked as a civil servant in the UK, where he championed digital engagement strategies and worked on national public health campaigns and central government institutional reform.
