Background
Coming from Antigonish, Nova Scotia, Leah completed a B.A. (Hons.) in International Development Studies and Political Science at Trent University. Active in a number of socail advocacy groups over the years, she spent several months in the northern Ecuadorian province of Sucumbios assessing the impact of the petroleum and palm oil industries on local populations.
Her main areas of interest lie in Latin American grassroots resistance movements and the impacts of Foreign Direct Investment within extractive industries on neighbouring communities. She has directed her study to the growing movement towards international regulation of transnational corporations operating in Global South countries.
As a CIGI Junior Fellow, Leah is part of the graduate-student policy team working on the East African Community and Food Security Action Plan project.
