Background
Paul Freston is the CIGI chair in religion and politics in global context at the Balsillie School of International Affairs and with the Religion and Culture Department at Wilfrid Laurier University. Dr. Freston is a distinguished senior fellow and director of the Program for Studies of Religion in Latin America, Institute for Studies of Religion (ISR), Baylor University, professor colaborador in the Post-Graduate Programme in Sociology, Universidade Federal de São Carlos, Brazil and investigador colaborador in the Centro de Estudos de Migração e Minorias Étnicas, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal. Has a special interest in stimulating opportunities for scholars based in the global south, both by supervising theses and directing international research teams.
