  • Purbita has chosen to pursue her studies in human rights and human security. She is particularly interested in research on humanitarian intervention and wants to examine the normative principle of Responsibility to Protect.

Background

Purbita is an international student from Bangladesh.  She has lived in Ottawa for four years where she also completed her undergraduate studies from the University of Ottawa in Conflict Studies and Human Rights.  Influenced by her academic background, she has chosen to pursue her studies in a related field, human rights and human security.

She is particularly interested in researching on humanitarian intervention relative to human security and wants to examine the normative principle of Responsibility to Protect.  As a result, her work entails reconceptualising the notion of sovereignty and the stake international community has in advancing human rights.  Additional work will focus onweak states and its syntehsis in the human security paradigm.

Her research interest is also influenced by her volunteerism n various non-governmental organizations, such as Amnesty International and Red Cross Canada.  She has completed internship in a Bangladeshi non-governmental organization called Organization for Women's Development in Bangladesh, which has futher inspired her to pursue her studies in the field of human security.

Apart from her interest in human security challenges, she also enjoys art.  She is fascinated by impressionism and have been incorporating the technique in her own work.  As an artist, she finds inspiration in the works of Van Gogh, Claude Monet and Pablo Picasso.
