Ashleigh Lauren Sureerat Kong received a Bachelor of Environmental Studies and Arts [Honours] with a Specialization in Research with the International Development and Legal Studies program from the University of Waterloo. Ashleigh’s personal experience living in Jamaica, the United States, and Canada has informed her of the different ways the countries she has called home manage and respond to inequality.
During her final year at the University of Waterloo, Ashleigh conducted an undergraduate thesis using a Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and Critical Interpretive Policy Analysis (CIPA) to examine the ways in which Jamaica’s education development policies have failed to account for varied Jamaican lived experiences. While at the Balsillie School of International Affairs, Ashleigh hopes to fill the gaps in her studies to comprehend how policies interact with society on a domestic and international level using multi-dimensional approaches.
