The BSIA warmly congratulates Faculty member and BSIA Board member Suzan Ilcan on being named University Research Chair by the University of Waterloo for a seven-year term. Her term will begin on July 1, 2022.
Suzan is a Professor of Sociology in the Department of Sociology and Legal Studies at the University of Waterloo and the Director of the MAGG program at the BSIA. Her research covers three broad areas: migration and border studies, critical development and humanitarian aid, and citizenship and social justice. She has published widely, presented many invited lectures nationally and internationally, and received several research grants in these areas.
The University Research Chair was established to recognize exceptional achievement and pre-eminence in a particular field of knowledge. This appointment is a clear recognition of Suzan’s scholarly contributions to both the University of Waterloo and the BSIA.
