On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared a global health crisis over the COVID-19 virus. As the doors of society and normalcy shut-closed in lockdowns and other measures aimed at curbing the spread of the virus, the world hopefully awaited a fast exit and return to normalcy; a silver bullet vaccine, herd immunity, or, simply hoping the virus would fade away. Yet, nearly two years after the arrival of COVID-19, we remain in the midst of surging waves of the virus with new and more aggressive variants appearing, throwing global politics and economics into complete uncertainty about the future. This raises a crucial question for states and societies everywhere: what is global politics in a COVID-weary world, and is it time for states to confront the reality of living with this virus forever? How?
