Ukraine Photo Exhibit and Launch

January 17, 2023 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

Almost a year ago February 24th Russia invaded Ukraine, causing the biggest war in the middle of Europe since World War II, breaking the lives of millions of people and destroying their homes and civilian infrastructure. The Ukrainian Photo Exhibit was created by Ukrainian students of UW to raise awareness and highlight the impact that the war in Ukraine is having on academics and civilians. Students show how people from Ukraine are standing, showing incredible resilience and resistance in the face of a cruel enemy. They want to share how they are continuing to live, love and hope even in war conditions. Students will share their personal stories aiming to show that fighting for freedom and democracy isn’t easy.

The Ukrainian Photo Exhibit will be on display in the Balsillie lobby from January 9 to 20, 2023 and we encourage you to visit it and show your support.

On January 17th, Ukrainian students will share first-hand experiences with the war in their country, and guests can experience VR tours of Ukraine before and after the full-scale war, enjoy Ukrainian culture and try some Ukrainian treats.

The exhibition is organized by the Ukrainian student community at UW and University for Ukraine (#U4U) Fundraising. U4U is a grassroots humanitarian fundraising initiative by students, staff, and faculty from the University of Waterloo. It aims to show our solidarity and provide relief for the victims of the war in Ukraine through major Canadian charities.
