Horacio Venegas holds a Bachelor Science degree with Honorable Mention in International Relations from the Autonomous University of Baja California (UABC). During his time at the University, he was actively involved in various academic events and was member of the University Congress as a University Counsellor of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences for 1 year. As part of his personal interests, he was a television host presenter of the program “Plural” of the University TV Channel, where he got experience by conducting the talk and interviews with policy actors and social activists about public policies, economy, and society in the national and international context.
He attended an academic year of an exchange term at Karlstad University, in Karlstad, Sweden, having courses in Sustainable Development – with Focus on Climate Change, Business Cultures, Intercultural Communication, and others. He obtained and was selected by the University to take the role as a host and guide for new international students in 2011.
At the end of his career, he worked as a practitioner in the Government of the State, in the International Relations Department from the Public Relations Office, where he assisted with the organization of governmental events for citizen support, especially of low-income communities. Besides of this, he was invited to a local radio program in Mexicali, Mexico to talk about international public policies and local news.
In the last year, he arrived in Canada as an International Student and got a College certificate in the program of International Business Management, in Toronto, Ontario. Since December 2017 he has been working as a volunteer researcher at the International Migration Research Center IMRC, in Balsillie School of International Affairs, in Waterloo, Ontario. There he provides administrative, communication and research support to the Resilience project team and carries out background desk research, translation, transcription; referencing and cataloguing information, data and resources. Also, he continues participating occasionally as a guest on CFRU 93.3 FM Radio to talk about Latin America policies and the challenges of Latin American workers who are living temporarily in Canada.
