Dr. Jerzy (Jurek) Konieczny is a professor of economics at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario. His research concentrates on the microfoundations of macroeconomics and nominal rigidities as well as on common currency and the welfare costs of inflation. He studies infrequent price adjustment at the level of individual firms and its consequences for aggregate price inflexibility. He is a co-author of the Fisher-Konieczny index of price change synchronization. His research has been published in leading journals, including American Economic Review, Canadian Journal of Economics, Economica, Economic Inquiry, Journal of Monetary Economics and Journal of Money, Credit and Banking.

He is the Director of the Rimini Centre for Economic Analysis (RCEA) and he has been the editor of the Centre’s open-access journal, Review of Economic Analysis, since 2008.

Dr. Konieczny received an MA in economics from Warsaw University, where he also studied mathematics. He received his PhD from the University of Western Ontario in 1987 and has been at Laurier ever since. He was a visiting researcher at Tel Aviv University, Harvard University, National Bank of Poland, Warsaw University, Bank of Finland, Université Libre de Bruxelles and University of Sydney and taught courses at Warsaw University, University of Trento, University of Bologna, Kiev-Mohyla Academy, and Université Libre de Bruxelles.
