Lena Gahwi

Lena Gahwi received her Bachelor of Arts from Western University, with an Honours Specialization in International Relations, and Major in Women’s Studies. Her research interests center around state security and the embodied migrant experience and are informed by critical-feminist theory. In particular, she is seeking the opportunity to explore the ways in which states utilize the rhetoric of security to manage populations, and how this impacts the ongoing global migrant crisis.

Most recently, Lena worked as a Volunteer and Community Outreach Coordinator at the London Committee for Cross Cultural Arts Inc. – Sunfest. Sunfest is the largest free music festival in Canada with over 225,000 attendees and 450 volunteers. Lena recruited, trained and managed volunteers, with the overall goal to curate and sustain community relationships centered around arts, culture and community building. Lena has had years of volunteer and professional experience working in the London, ON. community. Her experience stretches from on-campus organizing to non-profit work, to political organizing in the city.
