Dr. Hayes directs and is Principal Technical Consultant for Petrel Robertson Consulting, Canada’s leading integrated petroleum geoscience consultancy.

Dr. Hayes has more than 40 years of diverse professional experience. He has completed numerous major geoscience and multidisciplinary studies for companies, Crown corporations, and regulatory agencies, ranging from analyses of specific reservoir problems, to property evaluations, to large-scale exploration and development assessments in frontier and international areas. Many of these projects have been undertaken in a team setting with partner consulting groups.

His international experience includes hydrocarbon basins in North and South America, Australia / New Zealand, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

Dr. Hayes has been employed as an expert witness addressing geological and petroleum exploration matters, in both litigation and regulatory hearing settings. He has published extensively, and has presented papers at major conventions and other professional meetings. Dr. Hayes serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Alberta, and has served in senior advisory roles to Provincial and Federal government agencies and regulators.

Dr. Hayes has served Executive and Board roles in a number of organizations including the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists (CSPG), and the Canadian Society for Unconventional Resources (CSUR). He regularly provides technical and industry insights to public media and in professional outreach programs.
