Mengyun Zhang completed her M.A. in Global Governance at the Balsillie School of International Affairs, examining the role and participation of China in the world trade governance system. Before that, she obtained her B.A. (honours) degree from Nanjing University in economics, specializing in international economics and trade. Her current research interests focus on the global political economy with specific attention to international trade and China. Given China’s growing economic power and increasing activeness in regional economic and trade initiatives, its choice of image and role will need to be measured and analyzed for future efforts in understanding and implementing global economic and trade governance.
Prior to her doctoral studies, Mengyun also accumulated professional experience in many areas, including translation, teaching, immigration consulting, and administration. She enjoys cooking and innovating new recipes during her spare time.
