Peter Smalley is a practitioner working in the field of sustainable finance and corporate sustainability.
Most recently, Peter was an independent consultant whose projects dealt with digital technology, sustainability, climate change, and finance. Peter previously worked in the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Services team at NEI Investments where he was responsible for ESG research, evaluation, and corporate engagement activities for the consumer discretionary and consumer staples sector. While at NEI, Peter focused on engaging companies on issues including access to nutrition, responsible marketing, farm animal welfare, social and environmental supply chain standards, and corporate governance reform.
At the outset of his career, Peter worked for a boutique management consulting firm, the Delphi Group, specializing in sustainability reporting, corporate sustainability strategy development, cleantech market research, quantification of greenhouse gas emissions, and environmental policy analysis.
Peter’s research interest lies at the convergence of finance, verification of sustainability information reported by companies, and technology. He is particularly interested in how corporations and the finance sector are modifying their business practices to align more closely with global agreements, protocols, and principles.
Peter has a Bachelor of Environmental Studies, Economics Specialization, and Diploma in Environmental Assessment from the University of Waterloo. He is currently pursuing his MA in Global Governance at the Balsillie School of International Affairs.
